Google Scholar is a search engine that provides a simple way to broadly search for scholarly literature.

Google Scholar provides a simple way to help you find relevant work across the world of scholarly research. Searching for scholarly literature in a simple, familiar way. You can search across many disciplines and sources simultaneously to find articles, books, theses, and content from academic publishers, professional societies, academic web sites, repositories and more.

Like Google it can generate thousands of results, even from resources the library does not have.

Keep in mind that the library has lots of databases full of scholarly resources that we pay for. In most cases, the library databases will be sufficient for your assignments and research papers. Still, Google Scholar is a powerful discovery tool.

Key Features

► Search diverse sources from one convenient place

► Find articles, theses, books, abstracts or court opinions

► Locate the complete document through your library or on the web

► Learn about key scholarly literature in any area of research

How are documents ranked?

Google Scholar aims to rank documents the way researchers do:

• weighing the full text of each document,

• where it was published,

• who it was written by,

• as well as how often and how recently it has been cited in other scholarly literature.

Google Scholar is a great place to begin your search, but should not be the only place you search. Think of it as a resource you can use in addition to ATU Library's online resources.
