Zotero

Zotero is a reference manager software program that allows you to collect citations from sources of any type (books, articles, media, webpages, etc.), organise them, and create bibliographies automatically, in whatever citation style (Harvard UL, MLA, APA, Chicago etc.) that you need. 

Zotero allows you to:

• Create and manage citations of books, articles, videos, and more
  
• Import citations from many databases
• Extract metadata from imported PDFs
• Collaborate with other researchers 
• Insert references into Word

A (free) Zotero.org account allows 300MB of cloud storage. You don't need any apps to work with the cloud version of Zotero on your mobile device - simply go to the Zotero website, log in to your Zotero account via your mobile browser and choose the My Library tab. You will be prompted to purchase a storage upgrade if you exceed 300MB of cloud storage.

The Library provides training on Zotero throughout the year. Please contact your local library to arrange a session.

Metadata includes titles, creators, publishers, dates, page numbers, and any other data needed to cite the item.

Every item contains different metadata, depending on what type of item it is. Items can be everything from books, articles, and reports to web pages, artwork, films, eBooks, letters, manuscripts, sound recordings etc.

It is extremely important to cite and reference your sources in any work you produce for your assignments.

• Referencing is a way of acknowledging that you have used the ideas and written material of another author. It demonstrates that you have searched the appropriate literature and that you have carried out reading on your topic. It enables anyone reading your work to look up your references and read them for themselves.
