Information can be found in all kinds of places…books, journals, the web. Knowing which source to use will depend on what kind of information you need. Our aim is to help you identify what information sources you should use and where you can find them.

Learning Outcomes

1. Recognise what types of information are available and identify the characteristics of the different types of information sources;

2. Distinguish between primary, secondary, and tertiary sources;

3. Understand the differences between search tools, recognising advantages and limitations;

4. Know that new information is always being created and that there is constantly more to learn;

5. Be able to select resources that meet your information needs regardless of the resources’ medium.
