APA Style (7th ed.)

This guides shows how to reference with the APA 7th edition style

Have date of publication

Write the year of publication after the author(s)’ name(s) in the brief citation. In APA 7, we display it like this:

(Molloy, 2023).

No date of publication

If the source you are referencing is missing a year of publication, use the letters 'n.d.' instead of a year in your in-text citation. In your Reference list, use the words 'n.d.' in place of the year of publication.

The rest of the reference should follow the usual style for the type of source you are citing.

Approximate date of publication

If the date can reasonably be approximated, put ca. (for circa) followed by the year, inside brackets.

Date of publication has month and date

For works from a reference category that includes the month and day along with the year (e.g. newspaper and magazine articles):

In the in-text citation, just show the author(s) and year of publication.

(McGuinnness, 2021)

In the Reference List, put the year first, followed by a comma, and then the month and date.
