While we endeavour to provide for the most up-to-date information resources, it is not possible to stock everything.
If you don’t have access to the items you need, we will be happy to help you locate them. If the item(s) you need are not available in the Library, please let us know through our suggestion page if you think it should be added to the Library's print or online collections or contact your subject librarian.
If the item is very specific to your research, please make use of our Inter-Library Loan (document supply) service, whereby you can borrow books or receive photocopies of documents that are owned by other libraries.
We do not accept requests for items available in our online or print collections.
Before applying for an inter-library loan please check Search + Find and Google Scholar for the item, if we do not have the item(s) you require for your research either in print or online, we apply to other libraries for the item.
Please Note: This service should be used for ATU research purposes only.
This service can source a wide range of material that is unavailable in our campus library.
The main supplier for this service is Subito but we also request from, and supply to, other Technological Universities and Institutes of Technology. Normal loan items borrowed from other Technological Universities and Institutes of Technology may be issued and taken out of the library for home use.
Due to budgetary constraints, only postgraduate students may request items from Subito. Access to eBooks and eJournals is available 24/7.
Postgraduate students, with the exception of the taught MSc in Computing, can borrow resources from all ATU Donegal suppliers. Undergraduate students and taught MSc in Computing students can borrow books from other Technological Universities and Institutes of Technology and do not require special approval from their lecturers to do so.
In exceptional circumstances, when it is deemed necessary by a lecturer, undergraduate students and taught MSc in Computing students can borrow from other suppliers. In order to do so, you must ask your lecturer to contact librarymail.donegal@atu.ie for further information.
Interlibrary loans (ILLs) are expensive. Currently, students are not charged for requested items as the cost is directed to their relevant Head of Department or School. Most libraries do charge students a percentage of the cost and this is an area that library administration will monitor in the future.
Please contact librarymail.donegal@atu.ie with with the details of your ILL request.
If you don’t have access to the items you need, we will be happy to help you locate them.

Requestors will be notified by e-mail or telephone according to the details submitted on the request form. Items will be held behind the desk of your home library to be picked up within 5 days. If the item is not picked up after this time and no other arrangements have been made then it will be returned to the lending library.
The loan period for books and other returnable material is determined by the lending library and is usually 2 to 4 weeks.
The lending library may recall an item – in this case the item may not be renewed. Requests for renewal may be considered and must be made in advance of the due date by contacting the inter-library loans contact at your campus library.
It is the responsibility of the borrower to ensure that the item is returned to the library by the due date.
