How do I borrow?
- Go to the library information desk or the self service point with items you wish to borrow and check them out on your library account.
- You will need to bring your ATU ID card with you each time.
- Keep track of what you've borrowed on 'My Library Account'.
How long can I borrow items for?
- The number of books (standard loan) you can borrow depends on your borrower category:

The loan periods for non-standard items differ depending on the item and your borrower category.
- Theses, maps and some frequently used books are kept at the information desk and can be borrowed for 3 hours in the library only (Desk Reserve).
Can I borrow a book from another ATU library that is not available at the campus library where I study?
Yes, to borrow a book from another ATU library, you need to complete the Intercampus Borrowing Form. The library in question will then get in touch with you and arrange for you to borrow the book.
How do I renew my books on loan?
- Renew your book loans online by logging into 'My Library Account' at the library information desk, or at the self service point.
- Or email us and we'll happily renew your loans if there is no waiting list!
- All books are subject to recall at any time if requested by another user.
What happens if my books are overdue?
- If books are not returned past the due date, library users will receive penalty points and users' library privileges may be suspended.
- Students with overdue items on their accounts will be blocked from accessing exam results online. Final year students will be blocked from graduating.
Reserving items that are out on loan
Items that are out on loan or only available at a campus other than the one you are studying at can be reserved on the library website or by talking to a member of staff at the information desk.
Document Supply / Inter-Library Loan Service
Items that are not held in ATU Library, either online or print, may be obtained by using our Document Supply / Inter-Library Loan Service. There may be a cost for some items. Please ask at the information desk. Online requests can be made here.
